Union-wide
Book - Book branch will be leafleting all publishing houses.

Broadcasting - ITV day of action for NUJ, BECTU and Unite members. Handing out leaflets as part of the Save ITV campaign.

Broadcasting - BBC day of action with BECTU. Handing out leaflets at all BBC offices.

Manchester
All sectors - March and rally at the Society of Editors conference. Meet at 12.30pm outside the Manchester Evening News building, Hardman Street, off Deansgate. The rally will be at 1.30pm at the Friends Meeting House, 6 Mount Street. Transport from some areas provided.

Newspapers - Trinity Mirror group chapel will be holding their quarterly meeting.

Newspapers - Manchester Evening News chapel will be handing in their chapel pay claim and a claim for freelance members.

London

Books - Chez Mitzi Book Workers Stand Up for Journalism. Hear great union and folk songs and enjoy the famous picket line banana cake!

Book - Lexis Nexus special Boardroom Breakfast. Open to all members and non-members at Lexis Nexus, from 8.45am - 10.30am.

Broadcasting - BBC World Service work to your contract.

Freelance - The BBC makes more use of freelances than any other media organisation in the UK, but refuses to allow the NUJ to represent them. All freelance members who work for the BBC are invited to a meeting to discuss freelance representation at the BBC. NUJ Head Office, Headland House, 308-312 Gray's Inn Road, London. WC1X 8DP.

Freelance - London activists will be holding and demonstration and handing out leaflets to the public in Parliament Square.

Magazines - Leafleting Greater London House about the takeover/changes at EMAP.

Magazines - Mailing-out to all magazine journalists at key London magazine.

Magazines - Leafleting at Reed Business Information and an evening social event at the Bread and Roses pub in Clapham.

Newspapers - The Financial Times Chapel will be meeting and inviting a representative from Les Echos to speak.

Newspapers - Telegraph chapel will be holding a chapel meeting and handing out leaflets to the public.

Newspapers - The Harrow and Brent local papers will be handing out leaflets to member of the public.

Newspapers - The South London Guardian chapel will be standing up together in the newsroom.

Newspapers - The Enfield Gazette will be holding a joint chapel meeting with the press team of the local council.

Newspapers - The Daily Star / Daily Express chapels will be leafleting OK magazine to increase membership in the sister magazine.

Press & PR - The branch will be sending a delegation to meet Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, James Purnell MP.

North

All sectors - Revival of Carlisle branch, first meeting.

All sectors - Revival of Teeside branch, first meeting.

Yorkshire

All sectors - South Yorkshire branch are holding a bonfire night followed by a public meeting.

All sectors - Social event at The Old Steps on york Place, Leeds from 4.30-7.30pm.

All sectors - Branch meeting and social event on Wednesday 7th November from 4.30-7.30pm at the Cafe Sorrelle, Albert Road Middlesborough.

Newspapers - Members in Huddersfield will be handing in a collective grievance to their managers.

Newspapers - Newquest York chapel will be holding two tea-breaks at 11am and 3pm where they will be selling cakes to raise money for the newspaper's Guardian Angels Appeal as well as leafleting the public.

Midlands

Broadcasting - The BBC Birmingham chapel will be having a bonfire night event.

Newspapers - Members in Coventry will be holding a ballot over staffing levels.

Newspapers - The Birmingham Post & Mail chapel will be meeting with locals MP's.

Newspapers - Members in Leicester will be holding a chapel meeting to discuss pay and conditions.

Students - Nottingham branch host their annual students meeting to talk about the NUJ and working in the media. Tim Gopsil guest speaker.

South East

All sectors - Social event at New Museum Cafe Bar in Norwich. Pop-in and meet Norfolk branch representatives, have a drink and maybe win something in the raffle!

All sectors - The Oxford and District branch with the Oxford Mail and Times, BBC Oxford, and itv Thames Valley Tonight are producing a poster under the heading, "We're Standing Up For Journalism" featuring statements by around 30 journalists from these chapels about what they do.

All sectors - North Essex branch vox-pops and leafleting during the day, followed by a social event in the evening.

Newspapers - Members at the Newsquest chapel in Colchester will be holding a consultative ballot.

Broadcasting - BBC Cambridge chapel is holding a 'Know Your Rights' workshop and will be handing out stickers and badges on the day.

Ireland

All sectors - Seminar discussing the threat to journalism posed by lack of investment and outsourcing.

Dublin P & PR Branch will be holding a brief meeting at 1pm at the raised seating platform in Griffith College, South Circular Road, Dublin, addressed by Branch Chairperson Gerry Curran.

Staff in RTE are also holding a meeting tomorrow Tuesday to discuss the burning issue of pension provision for staff (Unfortunately Monday was considered an unsuitable day for such a meeting).

Northern Ireland

All sectors - Lobby at Stormont formally for the first time for an event organised by Belfast and District; Derry North West and Northern Ireland Broadcasting branches. Members invited to assemble at 10am on Monday.

Scotland

All sectors - A November 5 party jointly celebrating the unions centenary in Scotland. Two NUJ bands, awards and presentations at the People's Palace Museum.

All sectors - Festival celebrating investigative journalism.

All sectors - Launch paper on proposals for Press Commission in Scotland at the Scottish Parliament.

All sectors - Launch of Stress and Trauma in Journalism campaign - a follow-up to the bullying and stress campaign.

Newspapers - Hand delivery of Newsquest petition 'Not Safe in Their Hands' to Scottish Parliament.

Newspapers - Scottish and Universal newspapers will be holding a chapel meetings for all Trinity Mirror chapels, across 16 venues simultaneously.

Wales

All sectors -Public meeting in Swansea.

All sectors - Business breakfast meeting and lobby of Welsh Assembly.

Newspapers - North Wales Weekly newspapers will be handing in their recognition application.

Europe

Belgium:

the AGJPP/ABVV will circulate a four-page leaflet to politicians, in collaboration with the EFJ. A public debate will also take place at the International Press Center-Residence Palace at 10am in collaboration with the “Journalists @ Your Service” center.

Croatia:

The Croatian Journalists' Association and the Trade Union of Croatian Journalists are organising a round table discussion on "Journalists between professional duty and social/job insecurity"and invite media and government representatives.

Cyprus:

The union is trying to convince owners of private broadcasting to sign a collective agreement. On 5 November owners will be called to support the agreement if they have not signed it by then. A small demonstration will be organised in Parliament; several meetings about quality and social dialogue are being organized by the union.

Finland:

The Finnish Union of Journalists is organising a press conference on quality and try to get the union president on morning TV. There will be a joint Nordic article by the Nordic EFJ member unions to appear on 5 November.

France:

A demonstration will take place at 13.30 in front of the National Assembly and various events will take place around the country. Journalists' unions created an online petition at: www.intersj.info

Germany:

the dju in ver.di will organise a five minute work stop (10.55-11.00) to remember killed and arrested journalists. Find more information here: http://dju.verdi.de/
The Deutscher Journalisten Verband will hold its annual Congress on 5 November in Saarbrücken and will organise a demonstration to call on the German government to act on media policies.

Greece:

There will be a 5 minutes work break in Northern Greece and there is an attempt to coordinate actions with the other unions, in particular the Journalists Union of Athens Daily Newspaper.

Iceland:

On 5 November there will be a debate between media owners and the union on quality.

Italy:

The FNSI in cooperation with the general Italian trade unions will organise a demonstration next to the Parliament in Rome on the defence of collective agreements and the right for an agreement for journalists.

Nordic countries:

Journalists' unions will issue a coordinated press release and a joint article will be published.

Portugal:

The union of journalists is preparing actions to protest against the recently adopted new Journalists' statute, which threatens in particular protection of sources and authors’ rights.

Romania:

The journalists' union MediaSind will organise a press conference, public debates, a petition to the government and peaceful picketing in front of the Romanian Parliament.

Serbia:

The unions plan to organise a public debate with representatives from the media and the government, and they plan to organise a 2 minute work stop at media companies.

Slovenia:

The journalists' union is plans joint actions with their freelance section including a meeting with government officials to discuss the lack of regulation of employment relations in the media sector.

Spain:

The journalists’ group of the Comisiones Obreras (CC.OO), together with the other unions FAPE and UGT, will issue a joint public statement about the precarious situation of journalists and the defence of quality journalism. The text will be circulated to the government and to employers.
