Sign the petition
Please urge all members and non-members to sign the petition. This is our chance to send a message to all media owners about the importance we as professionals attach to having the necessary resources to enable us to produce quality media. www.ipetitions.com/petition/standupforjournalism/
We, the undersigned, are concerned that the quality of the media we produce is under threat as a result of a lack of investment and resources and call for urgent action to ensure staffing levels, workloads, resources and budgets are appropriate to enable us to continue produce quality media.
Complete the pensions survey
Help the union to compile statistics on the state and threats to pensions within the industry. Is your company is looking to save money by shifting the burden for paying for pensions on to staff, closing down schemes and replacing them with inferior ones or significantly reducing benefits?
Take the Survey
Do a workplace survey - and use the results
You can do a survey of members about pay, workloads, pensions - and other issues which affect your members. We can help you set up an online survey (contact campaigns@nuj.org.uk). Use the results to get publicity in other media.
Email your MP
Ask your MP to sign Early Day Motion 1994 urging the authorities to investigate the link between concentration of ownership and declining standards. www.writetothem.com.
EDM 1994
This house notes the concern expressed by politicians, community organisations and the public over declining standards in many media; notes that journalists themselves have expressed similar concerns and welcomes the action being taken by media workers in the UK and across Europe on 5 November; believes there is a link between concentration of media ownership, profiteering by media companies, staffing cuts and declining standards; urges the relevant authorities to investigate the effect such actions have on media standards.
Send your MP a postcard
Postcards have been produced urging MPs to sign the parliamentary motion backing our campaign. Get your members to sign them and send them off.
