Use the media...

While it is unlikely that your own company will cover your protests/activities, other media may be interested.

In the run-up to the day, consider what opportunities there are to spark the debate about the issues facing your members - letters pages, online forums, radio phone-ins. Why not consider a survey/poll which could help to secure coverage?

On the day, make sure you take pictures/audio/video of your activities - and send it as soon as possible to campaigns@nuj.org.uk for the NUJ's website.

Try to get other media to cover your events. Stage a stunt which will highlight the issues and make a good piece for other media and try to get well-known local figures - from politics, sport, the media, business or other areas - to back the campaign with a statement, by signing the petition or by joining you at your local activity.

After November 5th
Our campaign is not just a one-off day of action. November 5th should serve to strengthen union organisation and win new members. It should spark a debate about quality media - a debate the NUJ will continue to play an active part in.

Your chapel/branch should use the increased profile November 5th will give us to recruit new members (ensure you have up-to-date recruitment material - available from campaigns@nuj.org.uk), encourage more members to help in union organising and
campaigning.
